I had to get one more walk in before Thanksgiving. The scale revealed that I had lost ground and the holiday possibly could lead to a further set back. I donned my ball cap while wearing gloves, two t-shirts, a sweatshirt and a hoodie before heading out. My progress was less than 100 feet before the winds quickly slapped the grand delusion that I was going to do two miles out of my head. The wind out of the west was biting and whisked away the illusion that the sun offered a blanket of warmth from its radiant sunshine.
The goal was reset to one mile and I trudged on as the wind curled around to come out of the south right in to my face. You might think a southern wind would offer warmth but not at these temperatures. What it did was lower the windchill to 20 degrees. I gladly made the turn at the half way mark to put the winds at my back. With about a tenth to go I started to feel the heat I was generating and had the momentary thought that two miles might have been possible. Then the winds mockingly nudged from behind and started drape a perceivable crispness over my shoulders and back. One mile was good for me especially on a day like this.
